OpenAI Dev Day 2025: ChatGPT Apps and Sora 2 API

OpenAI hosted their Dev Day this past week. While developer conferences typically feature many new releases and launches, OpenAI certainly delivered some surprising announcements.

ChatGPT Apps

You can now run apps directly inside ChatGPT. This means you can call up specific applications during your conversations. For example, you can bring up Canva while chatting, or ask ChatGPT to create a playlist and send it to Spotify. Though there are only a few partner apps available at launch, this feature shows promising utility. My early tests indicate that interacting with and calling these apps is impressively fast.

Sora 2 In The API

Sora is OpenAI’s video generation model. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s one of the leading tools for AI video generation. They’ve recently released an updated version of Sora that’s now available through their API.

Why is this so significant? Sora’s generation capabilities are truly remarkable. They’ve now added sound generation, which takes the technology to another level. Here’s an example:
