Cloudflare Signed Exchanges

Cloudflare is one of those tools that give you a lot for free and slowly they just expand into more and more stuff. They have become more than just a DNS provider.

Now, as Page Experience Update from Google is now all rolled out. I know that I am not the only developer who keeps looking for some new wins and some new tweaks that you can turn on to help the process. Today, Cloudflare has a new item in their pro plan support for Signed Exchanges.

I will admit that I didn't know much about this before today. But, let's walk through it because if you are on Cloudflare's pro tier you might want to enable this.

SXGs was introduced by Google and what it does is allows Google to either prefetch or cache results.

From the below web.dev article it breaks it down like this "The HTTP exchange consists of a request URL, content negotiation information, and an HTTP response."

Signed Exchanges (SXGs)
An SXG is a delivery mechanism that makes it possible to authenticate the origin of a resource independently of how it was delivered.

Now, if this seems like another thing to manage and set up and learn. Yes, this is more stuff on your server that you need to account for. But, Cloudflare allows for an easy toggle so this should be easy to set up and see some speed gains very quickly.
